The Impossible Effect: 'Very Lucky'
Imagine this: A prediction is boldly written on a slip of paper and set aside, untouched. A spectator is then handed a deck of cards, free to shuffle as much as they desire. The audience is encouraged to 'mess up' the magician, but to no avail. The deck is divided, shuffled further by multiple spectators. One individual freely thinks of a number between one and fifteen, remembers the card at that position in their packet, and proceeds to move cards, deal into multiple piles, and even shuffle again – all with absolute freedom. Finally, the packets are reassembled. The magician's initial prediction is opened, revealing a number. In an astonishing climax, that exact number of cards is counted down, and impossibly, the spectator's freely thought-of card appears in the predicted location. This is 'Very Lucky' – a baffling demonstration of controlled chaos and uncanny prediction.

The What
A prediction is written on a slip of paper which is folded up and placed on the table. A deck of cards is given to a spectator. The magician tells the audience to do their best to mess him up, but they won’t be able to because the magician is so lucky. The deck is divided into two halves and handed out for the spectators to shuffle. One of the spectators is asked to think of a number between one and fifteen. The cards from the packet this spectator is holding are shown to the spectator, and the spectator remembers the card in the position of the number they thought of. This spectator then moves the number of cards they are thinking of from the top of their packet to the bottom and then deals their cards out into three packets in any order and is given the opportunity to shuffle this packet at any time they want. The packets are gathered up in any order into a single pile and spread on the table. The prediction is opened, and a number revealed. That number of cards is counted down, and impossibly, the thought of card is found in the predicted location.
